Louder Than You Think, a 2023 SXSW Audience Award winner, is an up-close cinematic walkabout through the life of Gary Young (May 3, 1953 - August 17, 2023), the original (and highly unlikely) drummer of indie rock royalty Pavement. His booze and drugs-fueled antics (on-stage handstands, gifting vegetables to fans) and haphazard production methods (accidentally helping launch the lo-fi aesthetic) were both a driving force of the band's early rise and the cause of his eventual crash landing. We recently had a blast working with Producer Allison Victoria Wolfe and Director Matthew Hersh on their anthology horror film titled If It Bleeds. Little Wonder designed and built the marionette of Chip, who stars in his own segment within the anthology. Keep an eye out here, and on our instagram, to see when it’s out in the world.

Gary Young, the subject of the documentary Louder Than You Think.
In 2021 & 2022 Little Wonder produced six marionette segments for a documentary called Louder Than You Think, a documentary about Gary Young, the first drummer for Pavement. The segments were directed by our very own Adrian Rose Leonard. We’re excited to announce that the film will have its world premiere at SXSW in 2023! If you’re attending the festival, be sure to check out the film, and keep an eye out for the Gary Young marionette making the rounds.
